***Heidelberg in the rain***
***my kuckuckuhren!***
We bought a hand-carved with Black Forest wood cuckoo clock this past weekend while we were visiting the little village of Triberg. We have not been shoppers since we moved to Germany. We prefer to put all our extra money into vacations. Fact of the matter is that I have taken a photo of just about everything…. So our cuckoo clock will be the only investment we intend to make while we are here.
It is the perfect cuckoo clock – it is very tradition yet I believe it looks fantastic with my more contemporary furniture because of the simplicity of the dark wood finish. I love it! And, every time it tells me the hour has changed I get a giant grin on my face! It reminds me so much of my childhood trips to visit my grandma and grandad in Pennsylvania. Nothing but happy memories eating cheese puffs and hanging out with my cousins.
***double-edged sword***
I love traveling. I think that is pretty clear by my website and blog. The food, the smells, the sites, the experiences….. you can’t learn these things from a book. I live for traveling. Travel is why we moved to Germany when the opportunity presented itself.
But it is tiring! And, addictive! I am home and exhausted from our exciting two weeks – first 9 days in Italy, a break at home, and then a weekend in Paris. How can anything compare. But thud. Now I am back home and totally off track from my regular schedule. For instance, I should really hit the gym but my legs feel too tired to run today. All that walking on cobblestones….. too tired. And, the fridge is empty so I must make a trip to the store.
It is the post-vacation depressing return to normal. I have done this so many times in the past 9 months. I hate this point but I love to travel. It is the double-edged sword.
Oh well….. We did it for the Eiffel Tower…..
***FYI — nothing garners attention like a convoy of classic fiat 500′s***
FYI – Nothing garners attention like riding the streets of Firenze in a convoy of classic Fiat 500′s…..
shall I share? oh yes.
***Woohoo! Fiat 500!!!***
Oh, what to do on a dreary day in Firenze……
we could go to a museum with the crowds…. naaaa…. OR we could drive around in a convoy of Fiat 500′s and go wine tasting. YES!!!
Here’s a special shout out to Sergio — keep on chuggin’ buddy! you were a good car!
Thank you so much, Alex, Mary Ann, and Sophie. What a wonderful thing you are sharing with the world. Happy 29th Birthday Al! Cheers to Becky! Thank you Fiat 500 Touring Club!!!!
***there’s this tower….***
I don’t know if you realize this, but there is this tower in Italy and it actually leans!!!
ok, in all honestly, I admit it was pretty exhilarating to come around the corner and see the top of the tower for the very first time. I have seen the images all my life and yet I didn’t anticipate what a strong presence this tower would add to the small city of Pisa.
Of course we had to climb to the top!
The marble steps are very worn away particularly at the higher point in the tower. Without railings and the sense that the marble it slippery, the task of climbing back down is actually more daunting than it might seem.
